FLIGHT: A festival of dance in its natural habitat between earth and sky, where communities connect.

FLIGHT is an outdoor festival celebrating diverse and Indigenous dance. A meeting ground for expression and education. Created and led by Carol Anderson, Arwyn Carpenter, Kristen Foote and Sophie Dow, featuring dynamic works by Carol Anderson, Peggy Baker, José Limón, Ritmo Flamenco and dancers Arwyn Carpenter, Syreeta Hector and Sophie Dow. Each evening begins with hoop dances by Taino/Cree Shapeshifter Beany John or Kyle LaForme (Inini Nanaadawi Awesiinhwag/Turtle Clan/Mississaugas of the Credit). Live music performed by Erik Geddis and Ritmo Flamenco.

Pre-show chats will be hosted by the company, offering insights into the evenings' dances.

Outdoor Kids’ Camp

The Grass is Lava - will be spearheaded by beloved children’s educator Arwyn Carpenter. Classes will be accompanied live by pianist/percussionist Erik Geddis. 

Workshops

Directional Honouring in Movement Children, adults and families are invited to explore teachings from the land, through movement-based improvisation in this 1 hour workshopworkshops, appropriate for kids, families and adults will be guided by Sophie Dow, an accomplished multidisciplinary artist who shares wisdom inspired by Métis-Assiniboine lineage through contemporary dance.

Limón Modern Dance Discover the technique created by modern dance pioneer José Limón, with Kristen Foote, a celebrated dancer with the Limón Company in New York City for 20 years, who leads a beginner-friendly dance workshop exploring the ideas of suspension and fall, swing, opposition, breath, and movement improvisation.

Mindful Movement with Carol A mindful session appropriate for movers of all ages and stages led by Carol Anderson.

Community Engagement – ApHeart:

ApHeart The Flight Festival invites interested local PEC community members to dance alongside seasoned professionals in a beautiful movement meditation, scored by Julia Aplin and Carol Anderson with guest artist Terrill Maguire. Tickets available here.
